“Nara Sundays” was painted by me, Alexandra Swistak when I was in Japan.
This is an expressive, mid-century modern impressionist style figurative landscape oil painting. Japanese kimonos and gardens continue to be favorite subjects; so much so that I painted numerous scenes throughout the lockdowns.
I find great comfort in painting these compositions. The colors are carefully muted to add to the overall sense of calm. This tranquil garden scene is showcasing a sense of freedom. The figures in beautiful kimonos hint to a bygone era. No detail is accidental in this landscape.
